What it’s like to work with Shruti

Shruti’s clients, students, and colleagues experience her as responsive and responsible, and attuned to factors such as context, environment, and culture. Clients appreciate her compassion, flexibility, and how she engages and interacts with respectful curiosity and openness.

A Note From Shruti

“I am excited to work with people from diverse and unique backgrounds, and find a great deal of satisfaction in learning about others and their lives, and the ways in which I can bring my skills as a therapist to supporting and serving others. Working as a therapist reminds me every day of the importance of our human connection, our need for others in our lives, to feel safe, secure, in order to grow, change and develop.

“I strive to work with my clients in ways that bring them the results and outcomes they desire for their lives; such as a sense of connectedness, better communication, and less stress and conflict within their close relationships. In supporting others in their process of growth and connection, I learn a great deal about myself, I find meaning, and I find an increased sense of calm and connection in my own life.

“I provide clients with some unique qualities and experiences, personal and professional. I am an immigrant to the US, was born in India and lived in a variety of countries before my family moved to the US. I have lived in and traveled widely across the globe, most recently spending a year in Istanbul, Turkey as a Fulbright Scholar. I am a partner in a long-term interracial relationship, with personal experience navigating complex cultural contexts and experiences. I combine a my clinical knowledge and expertise with my scholarly and academic work as a full-time associate professor in a couple and therapy program; each professional context informs the other to make me a better therapist.”

Shruti and her partner enjoy long distance drives on vacation; a few years ago they spent seven weeks driving over 14,000 miles through 48 of the 50 US states, visiting at least one national monument or park in each of the states.
